Photo documentary for Burton’s ‘Built On Boards’ series with painter / artist and mountain guide Jessa Gilbert. Hailing from the east coast United States and now residing in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada, Jessa has elevated her artistic game with a unique process combining mountain ascents and single line drawing. 

Having grown tired of digital photography during mountain adventures, Jessa opted to carry along pen and paper on each ascent as a substitute to the smart phone. After reaching the top of any given route, she takes a few minutes to single line draw the panoramic view, spending these precious moments deeply involved with nature. Jessa not only takes her art seriously, she also splits the schedule perfecting the discipline of mountain guiding, aka keeping her family, friends and clients safe on the slopes.

Our crew hung with Jessa in the beautiful town of Nelson, checking the sights, chilling at her home studio, while guiding our film crew on two routes in the Kootenay Mountain Range. This was one heck of a photo assignment as we covered a completely unique style of art while accessing one of the greatest mountain ranges in North America.
