Blotto X Burton
Flight Attendant
-
The Flight Attendant is a long-standing snowboard design within the Burton line that’s been popular among all riders, from novice to professional, on all terrain. This deck has delivered for me personally on so many riding occasions that it’s held a place within the quiver since introduction. In getting the call from Burton as the featured artist for the 2022 version, I knew immediately I had to come correct with a fitting graphics package. With an arsenal of photography, travel scraps, and luggage tags, I felt these items would be a perfect fit in holding up the Flight Attendant name and reputation.
The overarching photo theme was environmental, so you could picture yourself in any of these settings, arranged as a day of riding in the mountains; the road to your destination, two chairlift images, a snowboard in relation to the wintery environment, multiple riding tracks, and a cold smoke plume to cap it off. Laid underneath the photography is a collection of scrapbook pages from the past three seasons which document my experiences in the mountains with friends and family. The base features a luggage tag collage sitting below a tarmac arrow that displays the Blotto X Burton wordmark.
Three days of moving around photos, scrapbook pages, and art show leftovers, I delivered two top sheet concepts and base designs to the Burton Hard Goods Team for review. Meeting a number of times thereafter with Jackson Tupper and Lesley Betts, we narrowed down our favorite aspects of the graphic, shifted several items around, selected a base color and sent it out for a sampling. Once the sample board came back, we performed some further tweaks, refined the luggage tag collage and red base tone, then called it complete, as we were one hundred percent stoked on the final effort.
Working with the Burton board design team is a treat, these are passionate professionals dedicated to the craft of making the best gear in the world. I’m so thankful for this opportunity and hope you’ll enjoy my latest graphic collaboration. Blotto
