MINE SURF ART PROJECT

During the summer of 2020 I was commissioned to paint thirty-five original works for the Mine77 Deep Winter 2021 collection, paintings that would be used for graphic design on the Burton Backseat Driver snowboard.
I approached the process using two separate workspaces over the course of six weeks, painting day and night, drawing inspiration from current times, personal experiences, travel, family and friends. I wanted each and every piece to be completely unique, and give the buyer a choice of designs and colorways.
Upon completion, each piece was studio photographed, converted to a digital file, then reproduced as a physical top sheet and base surface. The thirty-five boards were then hand-built by the legendary build team at Craig’s Prototype Facility in Burlington, Vermont.
This project is dedicated to Jake Burton Carpenter, his family and his lasting legacy of making the world a better place through snowboarding.
The opportunity to honor Jake Burton through the Blotto Mine Surf Project, while working alongside his son Timi for the entirety of this project, was a dream come true. Timi brought this project to life through his tireless work with the Mine77 team, and I can’t thank him enough for the creative freedom he offered me in the making of this collection.

The DW21 Collection dropped on January 19, 2021, with the Blotto Mine Surf decks selling out in four minutes. The buyer of each piece received the snowboard, and the original art. Teamwork makes the Dream work.
